Return

Staring into fire can relax, mesmerise, or evoke quiet reflection.  Chasing flares and shapes that emerge and disappear in a split second, with ferocity the eye cannot register, I was intrigued; what would the flames look like still, as a moment in time?  A camera allowed me to ‘freeze’ the flames to provide a view of captivating shapes, patterns, and rhythms normally unseen.

In other work I have explored the light, texture, and flow of fabrics.  The fire images fascinated me with their similarities; the rhythm and relationship with the flow of air directing the flames.

Burning different materials created diverse images; nuances of colour, changes in ferocity, some sparking fire ribbons, or rivulets of flame.  Others, large, billowing bursts, or tiny fireballs.

This amazing secret world of fluidity and life filled me with enthusiasm to create this collection.
